Under the Tents 2026: Kyu Yong Eom, Hiya Toys, Tom Kenny, Sweeney Boo, Scott C.

I’m having some serious deja vu right now, kids. I swear, I was JUST HERE, typing out the opening paragraph to another Under the Tents post. I know there were links and something about events and a calendar… it all just seems very familiar.

It could be a glitch in the Matrix, or it could just be SDCC season.

In case you didn’t notice, we find news everywhere. Sometimes it’s sent to us, but usually for Under the Tents, it’s been sourced from Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Substacks, Threads, personal websites, Google, and Bluesky.

Ok, then, you asked for it, let’s show you the news:

  • Death has come to our little convention, folks. Salvador Velazquez has two variant covers for Fame John Carpenter with the Collector Cave. Each cover is limited to 75 copies and will feature different spot foil accents. Velazquez will be at Artist Alley #EE-12.

My first exclusive cover ever for SDCC, courtesy of the amazing folks at Collector Cave. Two different spot foil variations limited to 75 copies each. Signatures, remarks and CGC details soon.instagram.com/collectorcave/#Halloween #MichaelMyers #sdccexclusive #sdcc2026 #collectorcave

  • Artist John Murphy said the “F” word! I’m talking about the word “floppies” which means comics books, which John says he will have at SDCC, along with prints and other books.

I'll be at #SDCC again this year with prints floppies and books #comics #comicon #SDCC2026

  • I have a fairly new neighbor, and she has a dog named Pine Cone, so now when I talk about him, I say “My Neighbor Pine Cone” which for some reason always makes me think about My Neighbor Totoro, which then brings me (the long way) back around to Nan Hockin, who unveiled a selection of My Neighbor Totoro original pieces she will have at San Diego Comic-Con. But that’s really just the tip of the pine cone. Hockin will have loads more adorable art at booth F-11.

  • If mergers and acquisitions are your game, and SDCC is your playground, then make sure you are at the….*pauses to straighten my tie and adjust the microphone*… “Mergers and Acquisitions in Entertainment, Publishing and Gaming” panel sponsored by Troutman Pepper and Locke, featuring Joe Brusha (founder and CEO of Zenescope Entertainment), and a whole host of professional folks. Continuing Legal Education credits will be offered for attorneys. This will be on Thursday, July 23 at 5pm, location TBA.
  • Check out the progress on this Vampire Lestat piece from Martin Hsu. I’m willing to bet that’s not Flaming Hot Cheeto dust he’s licking off his paws, is it?

  • The greatest threat to democracy is indifference and nobody believes this more than the folks at Hiya Toys, who want YOU to exercise your right by voting in their poll. Which Mega Man character deserves the Hiya Toys treatment next? Also, they will be at San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Award-winning author and illustrator Jon Sideriadis will have copies of Book Two of his series Astromythos, but it will be precious few. The gold foil cover was co-created with printmaker Viktor Pushkarev.

  • It was very strange that all of us collectively decided to cancel our vacation to Widow’s Bay (the next Martha’s Vineyard) and go to San Diego Comic-Con instead. Luckily, we’ll still be able to get a touch of the spooky whimsy with Master of Whimsy™ , Scott Campbell, who is sketching out some familiar Widow’s Bay visages, with the intent to have a print ready for for SDCC. Carry on, Scott!

  • The official San Diego Comic-Con Twitter account announced that the Events Guide cover was designed by Richard Blake, who was the recipient of the 2025 Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award. Most likely, the guide will be digital only again this year, but that has yet to be shared.

  • Does the gif have anything to do with the tweet? That is the real question we would want to put to Steven “Collider Frosty” Weintraub, who posted that his third panel, featuring three guests is “Showrunners on Showrunning.” Call me when you need a panelist for your “Watchers on Watching.”

  • The California Browncoats will be honoring the memory of Firefly cast member Ron Glass by directing their fundraising efforts during SDCC to the Al Wooten Jr Youth Center. One of the ways you can help is by purchasing merchandise from their fan table. This year, they are bringing back an “oldie but a goodie” the long sold-out “My Other Ride is a Firefly” license plate frame.
  • Fans of Tom Kenny and his extensive voice work (or who remember him from Friday Night Videos and Mr. Show with Bob and David) can rest assured that he will be at San Diego Comic-Con. Starting July 1, you can also book and pre-pay for a signing with Tom via Eventbrite. Prices start at $108.55 (including all fees).

  • Indubitably, you’ll be able to pick up some exclusives from indomitable Abominable Toys at San Diego Comic-Con. They will have items with Toy Temple at Booth #929, and 7 Bucks a Pop at Booth #5037.

  • Look folks, my heart breaks a little more every time I see a post about how announcements are “coming soon,” but clearly SOMEONE sent out a memo urging every single company to do just that. So, we’ll just have to be patient. We’re good at that, right? RIGHT?!?!? Here’s some confirmation that Tamagotchi, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will be there. Guests, exclusives, surprises, all the good stuff… we’ll learn about it “soon”.

  • One of the contributors to the Godzilla vs San Diego special from IDW (dropping the week of Comic-Con, of course), artist Gabby Ramirez, shared a bit of her artwork in the book AND that she will be signing on Thursday, July 23 at the IDW booth. Full signing schedules will be released closer to the convention.

  • Artist and educator, E.M. Gist posted on his socials that he will be attending San Diego Comic-Con, and while there isn’t enough room in his schedule for pre-con commissions, he will be at the Trinity Comics Booth #5553 where you can pick up sketches, exclusives and get his signature on your books.

  • The Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity in Comics will be the topic of conversation on Friday, July 24 in Room 4 at 1pm during San Diego Comic-Con. McDuffie’s widow, Charlotte, and several of his peers will join host Phil LeMarr and keynote speaker J. August Richards to celebrate the life and work of the legendary writer.

  • Fan-favorite cover artist Kyu Yong Eom has created a variant cover for Exquisite Corpses: Rascal Randy #1,  the first spin-off for the mega-popular series from James Tynion IV. He indicates that it will be sold via AC Comics during the convention.

  • If words have meaning but names have power, then this post announcing the names of the panels that will feature Arthur N. Ebuen on them, is hella powerful.

  • And lastly today, I do not envy the delivery driver for writer Scott Kilburn, who was tasked with delivering these boxes of books that Kilburn will now have to ferry down to San Diego Comic-Con. He’ll have these, and much more, at the Cypress Comix booth in the Small Press area.
