Under The Tents 2024: Playmates, Julie Vu, Masked Republic, X-Men ’97, Gallery Nucleus

Before I get started, I am working on this while watching the latest San Diego Comic-Con preview from Parks and Cons and I just want to say they do such fantastic work, give them a follow if you don’t already! This edition brings you a little bit of everything: exclusives, art, freebies, signings, and more! We are so close to SDCC!

Let’s take a look at the news:

  • San Diego Comic-Con regular Erik Arreaga returns this year and will be joined by artist Jesse Hernandez aka Urbanaztec. Hernandez has done professional work for Sideshow Collectibles and the San Francisco Giants in the past, so don’t miss these two talented artists teaming up!

  • One of the best trends coming out of SDCC in the past several renditions is the prize drops from some very generous and talented individuals. This year Nifty Neuron will be dropping some very cool handmade crochet characters. If you’re fast enough, you might be the lucky one to find the latest crochet drops reveal (Joy and Sadness from Inside Out). Follow along on social for your chance to win.

  • Speaking of prize drops, Geeky Hooker is also back this year doing prize drops for all the awesome attendees of Comic-Con. The latest reveal from Geeky Hooker will give you an extra life, as it is a crochet 1-Up Mushroom from the Super Mario series. Make sure to follow Geeky Hooker on their social media during SDCC.

  • Everyone could use a little escape from reality sometimes. Stephan Frank and and Dark Planet Comics are giving you the opportunity to do just that with their limited print edition of Romance In The Age Of The Space God available at Comic-Con. You can also reserve yourself a copy by using this link.

  • Who enjoys some beautiful Kaiju art? If you do, and I KNOW you do, Dinesh Shamdasani showed off this piece from Lewis LaRosa and Laura Martin that you can expect to see at their Bad Idea panel on Saturday, July 27.

  • Playmates is back with even more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle goodness this year at Comic-Con, this time with a black-and-white iteration. No word yet on where to pick it up, but odds seem high that it will be at the Nickelodeon booth as usual.

  • Masked Republic who spread the good word of Lucha Libre will be at Comic-Con this year and will be bringing some heat with their SDCC exclusives. They recently showed off their “El Enmascarado vs. The Evil Brain!” pins, which are sold separately. You’ll be able to find these and more at booth #1901.

  • Is there anything hotter than X-Men ’97 right now? If you said no, Unknown Comics would also agree with you. They have already announced a majority of the voice talent from the animated series who will be at their Booth #2834 during San Diego Comic-Con, and now they are adding Isaac Robinson-Smith, the voice of Bishop, and Holly Chou, the voice of Jubilee (on Saturday only).
