Under the Tents 2024: Loungefly, Star Wars Unlimited, Chrissie Zullo Uminga, Dan Veesenmeyer, Tiny Ghost

Oh, thank heavens for 7-Eleven! For those in the United States, don’t forget to swing by your local store on this here July 11 and grab your free Slurpee to keep cool, because it’s a hot one out there.

Speaking of things heating up, we now stand exactly two weeks away from the first full day of San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Every year, it seems like post-July 4 is when studios, exhibitors, and artists collectively decide to turn a trickle of news into an absolute torrential downpour. It has been a WEEK of epic announcements, from the traditional FX offsite to Amazon going all out with panels (let’s hear it for The Boys!), to the return of the Crunchyroll concert series at the Rady Shell. I contribute to this site and even I can’t keep up with everything… but that’s what is part of this event’s secret sauce.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the news you may have missed (and if you didn’t miss any of these, please consider joining our team):

  • Funko and Mondo have shown off the goods they’re bringing to 111 W Harbor Dr this month. Up next? It’s Loungefly’s turn to tease what they’ll have at Funkoville Booth #5145, and it’s coming Friday, July 12 at 12pm on Instagram Live.

  • The gang’s all here! Tyler Walpole showed off a Critical Role work-in-progress. Once finalized, it will be available as a print at his Tyler Walpole Creations Booth #5551.

  • The Star Wars: Unlimited TCG is coming with a Convention Exclusive promo pack that will first be made available at San Diego Comic-Con. Each pack costs $100 and is limited to one purchase per person. It contains six promo cards with a “brand-new, exclusive visual treatment”: Count Dooku, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress, and Darth Maul. It sounds like you will be able to pick this up at the Lucasfilm Star Wars pavilion at Booth #2913.

  • Come help 100 of Chrissie Zullo Uminga’s closest raccoon friends find homes! Zullo Uminga showed off her first SDCC 2024 exclusive in the form of a limited-edition Raccoon Gold Enamel Pin. Will you head to Table #BB-17 in Artists’ Alley and adopt one?

  • To me, my art prints! We all know Dan Veesenmeyer’s affinity for X-Men, from his time as a storyboard artist on the original X-Men: The Animated Series to illustrating the packaging for X-Men figures from Hasbro and Mondo in recent years. For this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, he’ll be bringing five different prints that he calls a “love letter” to the acclaimed first season of X-Men ’97. Grab ’em while you can at Table #EE-24 in Artists’ Alley, bub.

  • We like when people get to the point, like Marco Lorenzana, who will have an SDCC-exclusive sketch book available for $20 at Table #CC-03 in Artists’ Alley.

  • Enamel pins continue to be all the rage these days among SDCC attendees, and GoozeePins is contributing to the frenzy with a series of One Piece pins, including a purchasable expansion pack and a Boat Glitter Variant which will be exclusive to SDCC. Sail away with these in your collection after you’ve stopped by Booth #1215.

  • Should you find yourself missing cards, comics, and miniatures that are far too exposed to the chaos of San Diego Comic-Con, steel yourself and make haste for Ironguard Supplies at Booths #2607 and #3245 for all the protective supplies you could need to protect your treasures. You can also spin the Wheel of Prizes, pick up a free pin, and enter to win a prize pack.

  • Over on Instagram, Taco Boy Designs showed off a TMNT VS. 2.0 print that will be debuting at San Diego Comic-Con and teased a variant unveiling in the not-too-far future.

  • Emily the Strange is a SDCC mainstay, so it comes as no surprise that Emily will be making residence at Booth #4114 this year where you can grab toys, clothing, books, and accessories. Creator Rob Reger will be signing at the booth daily from Thursday to Sunday and will host the Emily the Strange Panel Experience on Sunday, July 28, 10am-11am in Room 32AB.

  • Finally, speaking of SDCC mainstays, the California Browncoats are back in town with two photo shoots that pay tribute to the late Shawna Trpcic, who was the chief costume designer for Firefly. The first is the Shawna Trpcic Cosplay Family Photo (details TBA) with an award for the best dressed. Then, on Sunday as the convention winds down, you can find them on the steps behind the Convention Center at 3pm for the Gathering of the Jayne Hats.

  • Prepare to be haunted by some awesome art from Tiny Ghost, also known as creator Reis O’Brien. While you’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the final Soul Mates Minis, O’Brien did share a spooky tease of the Season 2 line-up, which will be coming to life at Booth #601 with Fugitive Toys.
