Under the Tents 2024: Rachta Lin, Edge of Paradise, Jamie Sullivan, James C. Mulligan

‘Twas the weekend before Comic-Con, and all through the air, all was silent, due to some stupid software. We know you’re probably stressed, frustrated, or just downright frazzled if you’re flying this weekend, but fret not! You have this beautifully-written, almost Shakespearean edition of Under the Tents to calm those frayed nerves. When you see the great news from Rachta Lin, Pop Mart, and so much more, you’ll feel a lot better.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • If you’ve been wondering what’s happening at Shortboxed’s Booth #1105 at SDCC this year, you can swipe left on their Instagram post to see the goodies, or you can always check our Autographs and Giveaways posts for the details, too.

  • Swing by Erik Ly’s Artists’ Alley Table #EE-02, where he plans to debut the Gold Variant of his ASCENSION print during Comic-Con this year. He’s only bringing 50 copies, so get there early.

  • Margarita Monet, lead vocalist/pianist and founding member of the rock band Edge of Paradise invites you to visit them at War Machine’s Booth #1415 on Thursday, July 25 and Friday, July 26 of SDCC 2024, where they’ll be debuting their graphic novel, HOLOGRAM AND SLAVES TO FOREVER, signing copies, and giving away one of her original paintings.

  • Since it’s legendary artist Rachta Lin’s first time at San Diego Comic-Con, it only makes sense that she revealed her first-ever SDCC exclusive. Look for her virgin cover of Witchblade 2024 #1 at Table #GG-08 in Artists’ Alley.

  • Los Angeles-based art studio Hero Complex Galaxy is excited to be bringing the insanely talented Barrett Chapman back to Booth #4501 to debut his latest western exclusive at Comic-Con 2024.

  • Attention Pop Mart shoppers! The Pop Insider shared three new collectibles Pop Mart will be launching at SDCC Booth #135: a vinyl Toothless and Light Fury from How to Train Your Dragon and their DC Batman Reborn figurine.
  • Hold on… This just in… I’m getting word from our Editor-in-Chief, Kerry Dixon, that online comic retailer Comic Inspiration will be at El Rey Comics’ Booth #2302 for SDCC this year and bringing three amazing exclusives with them: Witchblade #1 Jamie Tyndall Exclusive (limited to 500 prints), X-Men #1 Tyler Kirkham Exclusive (limited to 3,000 Trade prints and 1,000 Virgin prints), and Zatanna: Bring Down The House #2 Jenny Frison Foil Exclusive (limited to 1,000 prints).
  • Tee On with local San Diego illustrator Tee as he debuts his own first-ever San Diego Comic-Con exclusive print featuring two adult griffins… frolicking. Yeah, that’s it… They’re having a little frolic. You can find it at Tee On’s Booth #4715.

  • When I was a kid watching the OG G.I. Joe cartoons, I wondered just how much of Cobra Commander’s crap Destro was going to take before he snapped. If you’re a fan of this under-appreciated henchman, too, illustrator Jamie Sullivan has just the thing at SDCC 2024: 25 signed and numbered copies of the raw art for his cover variant of DESTRO #1 in glorious 18″x24″ lithograph. He’s holding back 10 copies for non-attendees, but you might just be able to grab one of the 15 he’ll have with him at Committed Comics Booth #1005 for $40.

  • Cross on the green, not in between, or beware of… THE PEDESTRIAN. Artists Sean Von Gorman and Joey Esposito will debut their latest event/convention sketch cover at SDCC 2024 before they take it with them to other cons around the country. You can even get this special event cover signed by the artists at Magma Comix’s Booth #1709 while you’re at it.

  • Writer Gary Moloney can finally announce the gothically beautiful variant cover for When the Blood Has Dried by artist Meredith McClaren they’ll have at Mad Cave Studio’s Booth #2806 during Comic-Con this year. Now, doesn’t it feel good to get all that off your chest?

  • That wasn’t all he was sitting on. Dick Tracy fans can stop talking into their Apple Watch (we all do it) and head to Mad Cave Studio’s Booth #2806 for this Tess Trueheart convention-exclusive variant of Franceso Francavilla’s Dick Tracy #1 cover art. They’ll also be hosting crime author Alex Segura at their booth.

  • Another first-time exhibitor at SDCC, freelance illustrator, artist, and cosplayer Crystal Fae will be at Booth #1506 in the Exhibit Hall with an SDCC-exclusive variant of her Fallout: New Vegas print along with more goodies.

  • One of the members of the creative team behind Sonic: The Hedgehog, illustrator Evan Stanley, announced she’ll be at the Sonic Speed Café during San Diego Comic-Con on Friday and Saturday along with some of her friends and teammates.

  • When the name of your first craft beer is Arrogant Bastard, you don’t do things small. As if founding Stone Brewery wasn’t enough for Greg Koch, the SD Reader reports he’s partnering with Night Ranger’s guitarist, Keri Kelli (“MOTORIIIIN! WHAT’S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT?”) and graphic novelist Ben Fellowes to tell the story of a “fabled heavy metal band shredding across the universe” in his new graphic novel, Metal Warrior. Where else but Z2 Comics’ Booth #1529 would you find this exclusive SDCC pre-release? Nowhere, of course.

  • We all know SDCC 2024 will forever be known as the year of Deadpool and Wolverine, which is why crochet critter dropper Shozumi is bringing his hideously adorable crocheted Dogpool to place somewhere around the convention center during Comic-Con this year. Follow his Instagram to give this cute little guy a fur-ever home.

  • I was just thinking there wasn’t enough wholesome family art at Comic-Con this year. Artist James C. Mulligan accepted that challenge and created this beautiful UP!-inspired piece, “High Adventure,” to bring to Booth #4607. This piece makes me smile just knowing it exists.
