Under The Tents: Geeky Hooker, Super7, Patrick Ballesteros, Val Hochberg, Rooftop Cinema

Last week, we brought you the first WonderPost of 2026, and now it’s time for the first “Under the Tents”. For those of you who might be new around here, this is our round-up of all the odds and ends news relating to San Diego Comic-Con.

And there is plenty of news to be had! We’ve got updates on many of the vendors you’ll find at the convention, the first crocheted critter of the season, a big update on the Rooftop Cinema, and so much more.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • There’s no better way to kick off this year’s news than with the first Critter of the season. Yes, Geeky Hooker is back up to her old tricks, and she’s celebrating the end of Stranger Things with a tiny crochet Eleven. To make her yours, you’ll have to follow along during the con to catch the drop.

  • Syndicate Collectibles gave off some very, very early sneak peeks of things heading to San Diego Comic-Con this summer. Can you guess who the silhouette figures could be?

  • Writer Paul Thayer is starting the con off with full guns blazing, as he revealed his first SDCC announcement for the year, a Virgin Spray Paint Willie variant for his comic series Project Naosis Episode 6. It’s limited to 100 pieces.

  • One of our favorite artists, Val Hochberg, is heading back to the con again this year. How many line volunteers will she need this year for Preview Night? How quickly will she sell out of her mini original art pieces? These are the hard-hitting questions we intend to find out in July.

  • We like big butts and we cannot lie… that we’re excited Butts on Things — the crack-tastic brand from artist Brian Cook — is back at SDCC again in 2026, in the same corner booth spot. We can’t wait to see Brian’s cheeky new designs.

  • Artist JYK All Day will also be returning to Artist Alley, and we’re ready to roll out for his Transformers and fun pop art creations.

  • Artist Nooligan is also back at SDCC, and if you’d like to get on his commission list, be sure to set a calendar reminder for June 19.

  • Join us in welcoming aboard artist Tom Bacon, who announced his first San Diego Comic-Con appearance with a fun pixel art rendition of the SDCC logo in his signature style. We’ll be sure to stop by Artist Alley to say hi (and you should as well).

  • We’re not monkeying around with this next bit of news: Monkey Minion Press is returning to San Diego Comic-Con. If you love nature, science, or just plain awesome art, Dane and Ashley are a must-stop.

  • This year, be sure to visit artist Dan Veesenmeyer (Hasbro, Mondo, LEGO), who is as nice a guy as he is a talented artist. This could very well be his last year exhibiting at the con (because he, like all of you, wants to experience the con for fun).

  • As caught by 0nline user @FOKcrk, the popular mobile game Cookie Run is heading to SDCC, though we’ll have to stay tuned to see exactly what they’re doing.

  • While not a closure, the Rooftop Cinema Club has moved from the Manchester Grand Hyatt to the Porto Vista Hotel in Little Italy. The rooftop theatre always hosted movie showings during the convention, and was even home to several fan events over the years, including a Paper Girls premiere. Little Italy isn’t too far, but it feels far enough removed from the main “convention campus” that we bet those days are now over (though we’re sure they’ll still host regular movie showings).

  • The Tiny Onion team and Corpse Crew are hitting the road again in 2026. The team behind the horror comic Exquisite Corpses — including James Tynion IV, Michael Walsh, and the creative team — will be making a pitstop during the con at Now or Never (a fantastic comic shop), though details and exact date are still TBA.

There are plenty of other artists and vendors who have announced they’ll be attending the convention, including:
