Welcome to the GeekShot Photo Exclusive Series. This will be a weekly post featuring cool, interesting, or just plain awesome moments we have captured during San Diego Comic-Con. Each week we’ll post a photo by Beth or James of GeekShot Photography. We may include a short story about the photo, but sometimes we’ll just let the photo speak for itself.
About This Photo
Anticipation for the schedule of Nerd HQ 2014 is running quite high, so we decided to look back on a cool moment from last year.
If you couldn’t tell this is Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. It was taken near the end of the “Mystery Panel” that they like to do each year where you don’t know who the guests will be. These are really fun panels since they bring together people you normally don’t see on a panel together. In this case Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) joined the Firefly duo.
This particular moment happened near the end of the panel and it’s actually something you won’t see on the official video Nerd HQ put on YouTube. Instead you’ll see the person asking a question while this is happening. It’s at about the 1 hour mark, Alan is doing his King Candy voice from Wreck-It Ralph and signing a jacket while Nathan holds the microphone. The jacket was a gift from Russell Crowe and Christian Bale when they were filming 3:10 to Yuma, and as you can see in the video, he had Nathan and Robert sign it too.
This photo brings up something special about Nathan and Alan. They tend to do this kind of thing often at their con appearances. Going all the way back to 2003, they bring stuff from their closet or whatever is laying around the house and give it to those asking questions. It can be stuff from sets, gifts from friends or other actors, cast gifts from productions, or even the same watch over and over again. Sometimes they’ll even use the items to raise money for charity like Nathan did at Nerd HQ in 2012. Basically you’re likely to get something besides a cool panel when Alan or Nathan is the guest.
