When Comic-Con International announced Comic-Con Special Edition (the November 26-28, 2021 convention that we’re affectionally dubbing SDCC-lite), they mentioned that they were looking into an option for those who wished to transfer their San Diego Comic-Con badge to November’s convention.
They have now provided an update, and most importantly: If you are a Comic-Con 2020 badge holder (and as the convention didn’t happen, that badge was subsequently rolled over to 2021, which also didn’t happen… but you should get the idea) and you wish to attend San Diego Comic-Con in summer of July 2022, you don’t need to do anything! Your badge will transfer to next summer automatically.
Only if you wish to either request a refund or have your badge transferred to Comic-Con Special Edition in November, do you have to take additional actions. Again, if you don’t want to give up your golden ticket to next summer, you don’t have to do anything at all.
Important to note: Transferring your badge to November means you are giving up your ticket to the sold out San Diego Comic-Con 2022 and presumably your chance at Returning Registration for San Diego Comic-Con 2023. This is not a decision to be made lightly. If you want to attend November and next summer, we recommend keeping your badge for SDCC 2022 (meaning you do nothing now), and simply buy a regular badge to November’s con when they go on sale at a later date.
Now, onto the details if you want to give up your golden ticket to San Diego Comic-Con 2022: If you wish to request a refund, you can do so between now and May 1, 2022 over here.
If you wish to transfer your badge to San Diego Special Edition in November, so long as your SDCC 2020 badge purchase totaled at least $150, you can put that credit towards Comic-Con Special Edition. You’ll need to e-mail refunds@comic-con.org to transfer no later than September 20, 2021.
And for those of you wondering how much badges to November’s convention will be, that is also your answer — $150. As for the timing of when badges will go on sale, that’s still TBA.
You can find more information on CCI’s site.
Again, we stress that unless you have a very good reason for transferring your badge to November, we strongly recommend you keep your badge for SDCC 2022. Regular badge sales for November will happen at a later date, and as the convention is over Thanksgiving weekend, it’s likely to be relatively easier to score a badge normally.
