Under The Tents: SDCC News for June 21, 2013 [Early Edition]

We’ve started a new, quasi-regular column on the Blog titled “Under The Tents”. The title is symbolic, as it’s representative of the times we all line up under the tents waiting for those big moments to happen inside Hall H or Ballroom 20.

Here’s the stuff you might have missed for today:

  • The Kickstarter-funded Legends of the Knight, a documentary about Batman’s lasting positive impact, announced to their backers that they’ll be at the Con. Their panel will include some clips from the doc, as well as cast and crew for a Q&A:

I am thrilled to be part of Comic Arts Conference @ SDCC & hope I will get to see many of you there. During the panel, I will be discussing the film with some of the production team & ‘cast’.  And we are planning to debut a few clips from the film during the session!

  • An interesting tweet last night from Gary Miereanu, publicist for Warner Home Video, who hints at the big things we’ve heard will be announced by DC at Comic-Con this year. Lots of cool news about new films, series and SDCC panels. We can’t wait.

  • We get a lot of questions from our readers regarding a Teen Wolf panel this year, and we seem to have found the answer according to this post from Writer/Producer Jeff Davis on the Official tumblr for MTV’s Teen Wolf:

jeff! will you be going to comic con this year?! i’m coming from ct just for you guys.

yes, absolutely! and i grew up in ct myself.

So no details, but this confirmation comes from the source. Teen Wolf fans, commence rejoicing.

Bad Juju has announced a Toy Tokyo Exclusive Dripple figure via Facebook, as well as a few Sket One signing times at its booth, #5337.

  • Bluefin Tamashii Nations USA announced via Facebook an SDCC exclusive S.H. Figuarts Power Rangers Super Samurai Metallic Coating Deluxe Action Figure Set.

The set of five rangers was previously web exclusives in Asia, so this will be your first chance to get these in the U.S. The limited set includes “their full arsenal of accessories, including multiple handsets, and their signature weapons” in a metallic finish. The set will sell for $200.

  • Browncoats, check out this beauty of a shirt. A mashup of two classics – Firefly and Spaghetti Westerns – in today’s RIPT Apparel shirt. Available until Friday at midnight, then it’s gone forever.

  • Steam Crow is offering an exclusive print at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. It’s the Rasputin Hypnosis Academy, a faux school for enterprising villains.

Limited to 157 pieces, it will cost $35 and is limited to two per person. You can get this at the Steam Crow booth, #4013.

  • The Disney Channel animated series Gravity Falls will be returning to Comic-Con this year, revealed by this tweet from creator Alex Hirsch. And hey! They are looking for a moderator for the panel (hint: we’re available).
