Harbor Drive Closing to Traffic for San Diego Comic-Con 2022

One of the biggest changes to San Diego Comic-Con in 2018 — the Harbor Drive closure to all traffic and to anyone except those with a valid San Diego Comic-Con badge — is back again for 2022.

Harbor Drive will close to traffic (including bikes, scooters, and skateboards) on the following days and times:

  • Wednesday, July 20: 2pm-10pm
  • Thursday, July 21: 7am-10pm
  • Friday, July 22: 7am-10pm
  • Saturday, July 23: 7am-10pm
  • Sunday, July 24: 7am-8pm

Harbor Drive will reopen to traffic after the hours listed above, or earlier if deemed appropriate by public safety officials.

The three main exceptions to this rule are again emergency vehicles, ADA drop-off and pick-up, and those who purchased parking for the convention center. Those individuals will need to show their permit from the First Avenue side when entering after 7AM.

In addition, only badged members (attendees of Comic-Con 2022) may access the front drive, stairs and surrounding sidewalks of the San Diego Convention Center.

Note that the map in the Embarcadero Marina Park South is marked as a “Line Queueing Area” near the fishing pier. Comic-Con has previously used this area for line queueing as well — though it’s unclear if this is just the first time it’s been marked on this map as such, or if they are changing up line areas this year. The Plaza Park where the tents are near Hall H is marked in blue as “Badged Members Only” (which is how it’s appeared in previous years on these maps), so unless they’re utilizing this area for vaccine check-ins only this year (though the permit makes it sound like that will be the front of the convention center), we don’t think it’s anything to get too concerned with/anything new.

As previously reported, the shuttles will also no longer be picking up/dropping off in front of the convention center. Instead, depending on your route, your stop will either be at Petco Park or the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
