Under the Tents 2023: Chris Uminga, 100% Soft, Joyce Chin, Ashley Wood

With a mere two weeks until San Diego Comic-Con 2023’s Preview Night, SDCC has gone from a trickle to a deluge, but it’s going to be OK; you’re reading Under the Tents, where we package your SDCC news in one place and put a bow on it for you. This edition has great news from brilliant artists like Chris Uminga, Joyce Chin, Ashley Wood, and so many more. Oh, right, and we have a little crochet for you as well.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • Artist Stuart Sayger is super excited to be at 10’x10′ Booth #5003 (across from BigWow). He’ll have six new variants of his Red Sonja #1 cover exclusive to the con, or if you want something more personal, he’s also taking walk-up commissions throughout SDCC.

  • Crochet artist Shozumi will be dropping this beautiful crocheted Coraline somewhere around the convention center during San Diego Comic-Con this year. Hurry and find her before “Other Mother” does.

  • Illustrator/comic book artist Ashley Wood teased her Twitter followers with some beautiful new pieces she’ll have with her at Booth #2742 during SDCC this year.

  • You’ll want to phone home when you see artist Jason Edmiston’s latest homage to one of his favorite directors, Steven Spielberg, you’ll find at Booth #4617. You’re gonna need a bigger backpack for SDCC this year.

  • Boldly go to Small Press Table #Q-06 to find artist Jeff Pina’s latest adorable print featuring the characters in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. I’m changing my primary care physician to Dr. M’Benga this November.

  • You’ve been warned; Fox’s animated sitcom Krapopolis is set to take over San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Maybe this means we’ll finally get to watch it?

  • Just because they’re cannibalistic fungal flesh-eaters doesn’t mean they can’t attend SDCC too, right? That’s what Geeky Hooker says, anyway, so you’ll find this friendly critter munching away around the convention center during SDCC this year.

  • Indie comics publisher Diwata Komiks is bringing some insanely talented artists to Table #M-11 in Small Press at SDCC this year.

  • Have you had enough crochet yet? Of course not, so here’s some more; Scientist by day, crochet artist by night, the Nifty Neuron crossed the Multiverse to bring us the crocheted webslinger she’ll be dropping somewhere around the convention center during SDCC this year.

  • Brilliant artist Chris Uminga will only have 50 copies of his art book at Table #BB-18 in Artists’ Alley on the Exhibit Hall floor, so if you want one, and trust me, you do, hurry to his table as soon as you get a chance.
