[UPDATES AT BOTTOM]
Comic-Con International has updated attendees with information on the SDCC 2014 badge pre-registration process.
Here is the information from the official site:
Comic-Con is working hard to improve the online registration system and will launch Comic-Con 2014 badge preregistration sometime between November 1 and December 31, 2013. Only those that have purchased a Comic-Con 2013 4-Day attendee or 1-Day attendee badge and have a valid Comic-Con Member ID will be eligible to participate in 2014 badge preregistration.
If you attended Comic-Con 2013 as a child, but will be age 13 or older as of November 1, 2013, you must register for a Comic-Con Member ID to be eligible to participate in 2014 preregistration. Once you have registered for a Member ID, log in to your Member ID account after August 8, 2013 and follow the instructions to qualify for preregistration. You will need your Comic-Con 2013 badge to register as an eligible attendee.
Professionals, guests of professionals, exhibitors, exhibitor purchased attendee badges, volunteers, staff, and press will not be allowed to participate in badge preregistration. Open online registration for all categories listed above will occur at a later date.
Those eligible for 2014 badge pre-registration will receive an email with instructions and information “sometime in November 2013”.
Safe to say, it’s probably a good time to check your Member ID information to make sure it’s up to date, and that you’ve opted in for communications from CCI.
[UPDATE SEPT 30] CCI has begun sending out e-mails to 2013 attendees, changing some of their earlier instructions. Attendees were told to hold onto their badges because a unique code found on the back of each badge would be required to register for 2014’s SDCC. However, as a “one-time courtesy”, that code will be automatically entered by CCI for this year’s pre-reg. So if you lost your badge already, now is the time to breathe a big sigh of relief.
With just one exception. According to the e-mail CCI sent out:
However, new junior attendees (age 13 as of November 1, 2013) who attended Comic-Con 2013 as a child are still required to enter the badge code from their physical Comic-Con 2013 child badge to be eligible for 2014 preregistration. For more information, please visit http://www.comic-con.org/cci/

CCI had previously stated that pre-reg for 2014 would take place in November – so is this an indication that it might happen as early as November 1? CCI also goes on to say:
Attendees will be required to keep their physical Comic-Con 2014 badge and badge code to be eligible for Comic-Con 2015 preregistration. Please be sure not to sell, trade, or give away your Comic-Con 2014 badge or badge code, or you may not be eligible for 2015 preregistration.
[UPDATE OCT 3] CCI has revealed a little more information about registering children (those between the ages of 13-17 as of November 1, 2013) for Comic-Con in 2014. Just as with adult attendees, your child has to have already attended SDCC in 2013 in order to be eligible for pre-registration – however, you’ll also need both their physical badge and to create a Member ID for each child if you haven’t already done so.
From the e-mail, here’s what you need to know:
Did your child attend Comic-Con 2013 and would like to be eligible for Comic-Con 2014 preregistration?
If yes, children who attended Comic-Con 2013 with a paid adult attendee and will be age 13 or older before November 1, 2013 are eligible for Comic-Con 2014 preregistration! To register for eligibility, you must have the physical Comic-Con 2013 child badge and select the appropriate option below.OPTION ONE: My Child Already Has a Comic-Con Member ID
If your child already has a Comic-Con Member ID account, log in to their account and click the link toward the top of the page “If you attended Comic-Con 2013 as a child of a paid adult attendee, you must click here to qualify for 2014 badge preregistration.” Follow the online instructions to complete their eligibility registration.OPTION TWO: My Child Does Not Have a Comic-Con Member ID
If your child has not yet created a Comic-Con Member ID, visit https://secure2.comic-con.org/memberid/ and select the option “New Member ID.” Be sure to select the Membership Type “Junior (13-17)” during the registration process. After creating and confirming their Member ID, log back into the Member ID account and click the link toward the top of the page “If you attended Comic-Con 2013 as a child of a paid adult attendee, you must click here to qualify for 2014 badge preregistration.” Follow the online instructions to complete their eligibility registration.
The deadline to register for preregistration eligibility is November 4, 2013. Your child must complete one of the two options above on or before this date to be eligible to participate in Comic-Con 2014 preregistration.

[UPDATE NOV 21] With only a week and a half to go until the close of November, and the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, CCI and the Toucan Blog have announced that 2014 badge pre-registration won’t be happening this month. That’s great news for anyone busy during the holiday season – you won’t have to be checking your phone or laptop between helpings of mashed potatoes.
The holiday season isn’t the only reason for the delay in pre-registration, though. EPIC registration, the vendor who handles orders for badges, is busy fine-tuning a few things about the process for the sale. Considering years past have involved crashed servers and other bugs, this is a good sign that CCI and EPIC want to make things go as smoothly as possible this year.
While we still don’t know exactly when pre-registration will be taking place, we’ve at least got it narrowed down to a single month: December.
From the Toucan Blog, here’s the announcement:
We wanted to give everyone a heads up that 2014 badge preregistration for Comic-Con will not occur in November. EPIC registration is fine tuning the process and needs a little more time to make sure everything is in order. As soon as we have a better idea of the timeline we will let everyone know at least 48 hours prior to preregistration going live. So in the meantime, please relax and enjoy your upcoming Thanksgiving weekend! “
At least we have a bit longer to get our blood-pressure down to normal before the next big scramble for SDCC badges. Are you ready? Let us know in the comments.
