We are just shy of being 150 days away from San Diego Comic-Con 2024 — and while it may currently be the “offseason” for news, the UBlog is never fully “off”. There have been plenty of exciting teases about what you’ll be able to expect this July 24-28, including updates from Patrick Ballesteros, Dungeons & Dragons, Essential Sequential artists, cosplay photoshoots (and happy hours), and so much more.
Here’s a look at what you might have missed:
- There are few artists busier than Patrick Ballesteros when it comes to prepping for San Diego Comic-Con — and he’s already got his thinking cap on for ideas for July. If you’d like tributes to The Mummy and Starship Trooper at his booth this year, be sure to let him know on social media.
Still one of my fave movies from Brendan Fraser. Thinking of doing something for this and Starship Troopers for SDCC. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/VtHFybIEDC

- Have you already started on your cosplay for July? There’s no shortage of cosplay group photo shoots to choose from each year, and while exact details are scarce this early, we have word of a Marvel Fan Shoot set for during the convention. Follow the Facebook event page for exact details closer to the con.
- Perhaps you prefer your cosplay hangouts with more drinks, trivia, and prizes? Then set your calendar for Sunday, July 28 at Coin Op Gaslamp for an Age of Dazzler Happy Hour. The times are tentative at the moment, but you can follow along on the Facebook event for when they’re confirmed.
- The Indiana Jones Meet-Up combines everything SDCC goers love — cosplay, time options, and food. You can join your fellow adventurers for a cosplay photoshoot on either Thursday, July 25 at 1pm in front of the SDCC photo wall and/or Saturday, July 27 at 1pm in the same location. You can also join the group on Saturday evening for dinner, with details still TBA. Follow along on the Facebook page to unearth more artifacts — er, facts.
- You don’t have to travel to a galaxy far, far away for the Virtual Cantina Meet-Up, which is set for Saturday, July 27 from 8pm-11pm at the Omni’s West Coast Social Bar. Be sure to follow the Facebook event page for more details.
- Our friends at XLE Productions, the group responsible for Ready Party One and a slew of other fan-first parties, are busy planning for the perfect theme for this year’s round of parties. Does an Anti Heroes night themed around Deadpool, The Boys, and more sound fun to you? Or how about an Anime Night? Let them know over on Facebook.
- It’s a big year for Dungeons & Dragons, as the franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary. Fans can check out some of the worldwide ways and places the game is celebrating this milestone, and you can count them in for an appearance at SDCC 2024.
- Limited Run Games will also be taking things to the next level at San Diego Comic-Con this year, as the gaming company returns.
- Essential Sequential will be bringing a stacked roster of artists to San Diego this summer, including Arthur Adams, Joyce Chin, David Finch, and Cully Hammer. More artists will be announced, along with commission information and exclusives, closer to the con.
- Fantasy pop illustrator Andrew “Schmandrew” Thompson has added several conventions to his schedule for 2024, including, you guessed it, a certain con in July.
My convention schedule so far for this year:
— Schmandrew (@schmandrewart) February 21, 2024

Planet Comicon Kansas City (March)

- Some of your favorite artists, writers, and exhibitors have added San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to their appearance list for the year, including:
