Comic-Con Museum Panel: ‘The Stories Behind Cover Story, Six Decades of Comic-Con’

To be held at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park on Wednesday, July 22nd at 10am. Free registration at Eventbrite.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s especially true when it comes to Comic-Con’s 50+-year history of publications with cover art created exclusively for the event by some of the world’s most famous comic artists.

Gary Sassaman, former director of programming and publications, edited and designed Comic-Con’s Souvenir Books for 14 years, in addition to other show magazines and guides. He’ll discuss the history of the Souvenir Book covers and the artists behind them, and offer a peek behind the curtain with stories on how the covers for the 2007 through 2020 books were created, including sketches, pencils, inks, and color art not featured in the exhibit, and reveal what it was like working with some of the great artists who created covers for the event. Capacity is limited; registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
