Last week, we learned that iHeartRadio would be giving away a VIP experience for a lucky winner that included access to an “intimate” performance from the band Linkin Park, and now MTV has posted the details on what the rockers will be attending the convention for – and it’s big.
After the success of last year’s MTV2 Party in the Park — which also included live music, an autograph signing from the cast of Teen Wolf, and much more – MTV is returning to the San Diego Comic-Con offsite scene in a big way. The network will be hosting a fan-centric mtvU Fandom Awards show and music festival, with Linkin Park is set to headline the event at Petco Park.
The MTV Fan Fest will take place again on Thursday of the convention, on July 24. The event will also be broadcast on mtvU as an hourlong special later in the week, on Sunday, July 27, at 8PM ET.
mtvU Fandom Awards executive producer Ryan Kroft said in the press release that the Fandom Awards will “reinvent the traditional award show format”:
In addition to handing out trophies, we will recognize the achievements of fans and their favorite obsessions with special surprises and experiences. It’s the perfect event to reward the fans at Comic-Con, the epicenter of all fandoms.
[UPDATE] MTV has now released a release release for the event, which confirms that similar to last year’s event (and you can read our review here), the MTV Fan Fast will be free and “open to all Comic-Con badge holders with food, drinks, games and giveaways”.
