Fans have been chomping at the bit to get a closer look at James Gunn’s DC Universe since it was announced that he and Peter Safran were taking over the franchise, with their DC Studios. While some had hoped for an appearance at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it wasn’t to be — it was simply too early, and Gunn was busy filming Superman.

So many had hoped that 2025 would be the studio stepping out in a big way at San Diego Comic-Con, for the kind of splashy panels that DC and Warner Bros. used to be known for. That, however, does not appear to be the plan.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with both Gunn and Safran about their upcoming plans, and mentioned that “there aren’t any major plans for DC Studios to be at San Diego Comic-Con” this year.

As always, this isn’t in reference to the comics side, which will surely still be represented (the same way that in years when Marvel Studios skips Hall H, there’s still a booth and plenty of creators and artists across the convention).

It also potentially doesn’t mean that there won’t be any sort of panel (after all, Peacemaker returns in August, which feels like perfect timing), just likely not the big Hall H show.

We’re choosing to believe this is yet another victim of timing, and not a sign of Warner Bros. or DC’s belief in San Diego Comic-Con. James Gunn has always seemed to be a big fan of the convention, but with Superman dropping on July 11 ahead of the convention, and the next film on their slate not planned for almost a full year later, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow set for June 26, 2026, there’s likely simply nothing they could bring to the convention in a big way.

Over on the TV side, we still think Peacemaker is a strong contender, especially considering they brought out star John Cena to Comic-Con: Special Edition a few years ago, and even held a small offsite.

This does open up the door for Marvel Studios to yet again steal the show at San Diego Comic-Con. So, your move, Feige.
