Under the Tents 2025: Patrick Ballesteros, Adi Granov, Chris Maze, Justin Harder, James Tynion IV, Yesterdays

It’s officially May, and in our world, that means that it’s the kickoff to the San Diego Comic-Con news season. Our SDConCast starts tomorrow, on Tuesday, May 6, and we’ve got a season full of exciting special guests. But first, we’ve also got plenty of Comic-Con news for you, with updates on artists like Adi Granov, Patrick Ballesteros, and Chris Maze — as well as potential offsite teases from Justin Harder, Yesterdays, and James Tynion IV.

Let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Artist Chris Maze always has some amazing exclusives in store for the con (seriously, just check out last year’s), and he recently shared in his newsletter that he’s been busy gearing up for 2025. He’ll have at least 14 pieces to debut at the con, a new booth layout, and — most exciting to us — he’s doing preorders this year. Those will be launching “sometime in June”, so expect reveals sooner than usual. All around, it sounds like a win to us.

  • It’s always five o’clock somewhere! Yesterdays is planning a “possible” meet-up at local brewery Stone Brewing, so keep your eyes peeled for more news on that.

  • Patrick Ballesteros is always a busy guy, and lately he’s been busy with several local events. As his thank you to those who turned up, he showed off a sneak peek at “something fun” for San Diego Comic-Con — so really, it should be us saying thank you.

Speaking of sneak peeks.. Ballesteros also showed off a delicious one, ahead of his pre-con Pop-Up at Mnemonic Coffee (find more details here).

  • Sun’s out, Harder’s out. You’ll find artist Justin Harder once again at his annual “Pop-Up Poolside” event this year. While he doesn’t specify a location yet, typically it’s at the Hilton Bayfront — and you can swing by to pick up some art from Harder, poolside.

  • Jeepers creepers, where’d you get those peepers? Fandom eyewear brand Galaken is heading to San Diego Comic-Con with exclusives, sneak peeks, and regular product — because your eyewear deserves to be as fun as your fandoms.

  • We’ve heard of seven years of bad luck, but we think illustrator, painter, and writer Joseph Schmalke will get seven years of good luck for showing off an exclusive this early in the year. You can pick up Seven Years in Darkness: Year Three #1 cover by Fredy Bordales at SDCC this summer. It’s limited to 50 trade and 20 foil virgin, as well as five secret variants.

  • While we already shared that artist Martin Hsu is heading back to SDCC, now we know where: Booth #4530. It’s never too early to start those SDCC spreadsheets! We can’t wait to see the Ted Lasso Cats, Bridgerton Cats, and beyond that he has in store for Comic-Con this year.

  • You can also add Trinity Comics to your list of booths that you must stop by, nearby at Booth #5553. There you’ll find a stacked roster of talent, including Adi Granov, Lee Bermejo, E.M. Gist, and Andrew K Currey.
  • Speaking of Adi Granov… The comic book artist and conceptual artist (best known for his amazing Marvel covers) is returning to SDCC this year and showed off the first peek at a new exclusive for the con. This poster-style penciling of The Fantastic Four looks like Marvel’s First Family is gearing up for a truly fantastic debut on the show floor.

  • Comic writer James Tynion IV and his Tiny Onion production house are hittin’ the road, on the “Corpse Tour ’25”, in honor of his Equisite Corpses. One of the stops just happens to be fan favorite Now or Never Comics in San Diego, on Saturday, July 26. Each stop will feature exclusive merch, a Q&A session with Tynion IV, and a signing. More details TBA.

  • While we’re still awaiting more details, comics writer Gerry Duggan revealed that his Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe and This Ends Tonight will be dropping the Wednesday before Comic-Con… and that he will be there himself to promote both of those titles, as well as Falling in Love on the Path to Hell. More details still to come.
  • And finally for today, Dale Roberts Comics is returning to San Diego Comic-Con, and we can’t wait to dig through their offerings.
