Comic-Con International Implements Changes to ADA for Deaf Attendees

Comic-Con International has updated its ADA policies this year with an important change aimed at improving accessibility for deaf attendees.

While yellow-backed chairs have long marked reserved deaf seating sections in major programming rooms like Hall H, Ballroom 20, Indigo Ballroom, Room 6BCF, Room 6DE, Room 6A, and the Masquerade, this year those areas will now require a Deaf Services sticker for access. This sticker is separate from the standard ADA sticker and is intended to ensure that the seats closest to ASL interpreters are available specifically to deaf attendees.

The Deaf Services sticker can be picked up at the Deaf Services desk in Lobby A of the San Diego Convention Center. This update seems designed to better prioritize visibility and access to interpretation services for those who need them.

If you’re attending a smaller panel and would like an interpreter, you can also request one at the Deaf Services desk. While not guaranteed, the scheduling team will do their best to accommodate requests. You can find more information on Comic-Con International’s ADA policies on their site.

And if you’re seeking additional fan-run ADA resources, you can also check out the San Diego Comic-Con (ADA) Attendees Facebook group and the new SDCC ADA reddit group.
