“Unexpected Treasures” Film Landing at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 with Screening, Panel

As revealed by ScreenRant this morning, Unexpected Treasures — a feature film following a struggling desert loner who stumbles upon a peculiar visitor from the stars — is heading to San Diego Comic-Con with a panel.

Directed by John Paul Ungaretti (Cobra Kai, Outer Banks), Unexpected Treasures is a sci-fi comedy filmed in Joshua Tree that marks Ungaretti’s feature directorial debut. He co-wrote the script with Christina Heller, who also serves as a producer on the film. It follows Hartley, a down-and-out desert dweller, who meets Sam — an alien on the run. The two team up to outwit an alien bounty hunter, unravel a prophecy, and build an unexpected connection.

While details on the panel are still TBA, the film stars Mike Manning (Days of Our Lives), Olivia Blue (Animal Kingdom), Michael Dunn (Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2), AnnaMaria Demara (War of the Worlds: Extinction), and newcomer Rex Edhlund.

The Unexpected Treasures panel will include a special screening of the film followed by a Q&A with members of the cast and creative team.

“Unexpected Treasures is a love letter to the California desert and its rich alien folklore, along with popcorn flicks from the ’80s and ’90s,” Heller said in a statement. “Comic-Con is the perfect place to launch this cute alien story — it’s where strange magic finds its people.”
