Under the Tents 2025: Harvey Tolibao, Pac-Man, Asia Simone, Toddland

My coworker reminded me I still have twenty more days until my SDCC 2025 vacation time starts. I didn’t have the heart to tell her I already mentally checked out two weeks ago and have been laser-focused on Comic-Con news, like what we have for you in this packed edition of Under the Tents. Are you ready? Why am I asking that; of course you are. Let’s get started.

Here’s a look at what you might have missed:

  • Entertainment publicist Alexander Raymond is bringing his MonstarPR expertise to the “How to Get News Coverage” panel on Thursday, July 24 from 10:30-11:30am PT in Room 10.

  • No, this is not fake news; artist Shawn Kirkham shared one of the classic G.I. JOE figures he used as inspiration for his Beyond Wednesdays G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #318 SDCC 2025 variant cover, field reporter Scoop. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

  •  The Nifty Neuron’s latest crochet critter drop reveal will sssslither its way into your heart. Look for this posable Ekan around the Gassssslamp Quarter during SssssDCC thissss year.

  • Fans of comic creator Raymond Gay will be thrilled to know they can find him signing and taking walk-up commissions at Rich Henn Comics’ Booth #1907 during San Diego Comic-Con this year.

  •  The San Diego father-daughter duo of genius artists behind the classic comic strip Luann, Greg Evans and Karen Evans, will not only be at the Comic-Con Museum just before the con; they’ll also be spending some time at the National Cartoonists Society Booth #1307.

  • He’s Jackie Daytona – just a normal human guy working a normal human toddland Booth #4529 that may or may not be What We Do In the Shadows themed. Watch out for the creepy paper.

  • The Expanse Geeks will be back at San Diego Comic-Con this year with their usual panel. This year’s panel focuses on the “small roles” in the show that made The Expanse great.

Oye #Expanse Geeks, fans & #ScreamingFirehawks! @sandiegocomic-con.bsky.social hosts our annual panel! This year our team includes NASA/JPL's Krys Blackwood, astronomer Dr Robert Hurt, Dr Scott Jordan, & more. Join us for fun, facts & swag as we explore the small roles that make The Expanse great.

  • If you blinked, you might have missed the San Diego Marriott Marquis’s Instagram Story announcing Hulu’s Summer Poolside Cinema schedule at the hotel. During SDCC this year, you can enjoy Little Miss Sunshine while relaxing poolside on Sunday, July 27 — we think, anyway. Their site actually lists the July 27 film as The Amateur. Either way, definitely a great way to unwind after a busy con.

  • Freelance illustrator and comic creator Asia Simone is excited to be attending her first San Diego Comic-Con this year and is bringing some comics with her, along with some brand new art. If you’re following our Commissions post, you know she’s opened her pre-show commissions as well.

  • Our resident pro wrestling fans Erin Tapken and Robert Warners will completely deny it, but documentary Keep It Kayfabe, which pulls back the curtain on some of professional wrestling’s… let’s call them “theatrics,” will be premiering at the Comic-Con International Film Festival this year. Look for it playing on Thursday, July 24 at 8:05pm PT in Grand Ballroom 6 in the San Diego Marriott Marquis. The mullets alone are worth it.

  • Top Shelf Comic wants everyone to LTFI for their bigger and better SDCC 2025 Mystery Packs they’ll have at their booth in the Exhibit Hall.

  • Oh… Did you think we missed a James Silvani post? That’s about as likely as Godzilla rising from the San Diego Bay behind the convention center during SDCC. He’ll have some electrifying original art at Table #II-06 in Artists’ Alley.

More Titan-ic original art stomping towards SDCC later this month!

  • Drax and Nick Fury in a movie together? Sign me up. Red 5 Comics is celebrating the release of the AFTERBURN movie with Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson by re-releasing an SDCC 2025-exclusive variant of their very own AFTERBURN #1 issue of the comic at Booth #1808. Only 300 copies of this variant with cover art by illustrator Danny Luckert will be available at the con, so get there early.

  • Comic illustrator Harvey Tolibao is starting to feel the pressure only con season can bring as he prepares his Deathdealer piece he’s bringing with him to Booth #4613 for San Diego Comic-Con this year.

  • Til you’re 90! That’s a really long time for young art prodigy Ethan Castillo, who shared some Wolverine Post-It Notes he’ll have at Table #AA-01 in Artists’ Alley this year.

  • Look… I don’t know how to put this, but writer/illustrator/producer/director Arthur Ebuen is kind of a big deal. People know him. He has many leather-bound books, and his apartment smells of rich mahogany. He also has a table in Artists’ Alley at SDCC this year now. Table number TBA.

I’m adding an Artists’ Alley table to my #SDCC adventures on top of the panels. Going to be a fun Comic-Con!
