If you’re looking for a convention that celebrates queer stories, creators, and fandoms, Q Con is back this weekend with a full day of comics, cosplay, panels, and community. Hosted by Prism Comics, the nonprofit organization dedicated to LGBTQIA+ representation in comics and pop culture, Q Con returns to Plummer Park in West Hollywood this Saturday, June 20 from 11am-6pm. Best of all, admission is completely free.
Now in its fifth year, Q Con is Southern California’s only LGBTQIA+ comic convention, bringing together comic creators, voice actors, filmmakers, educators, readers, and fans for a celebration of queer storytelling across comics, gaming, television, film, and pop culture. Attendees can meet creators, get autographs, browse exhibitors, show off their cosplay, compete in the all-ages costume contest, and even participate in portfolio reviews with comics professionals.
This year’s event also features an impressive lineup of guests and programming, including recent additions such as Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Batwoman), Nicole Georges (Fetch: How a Bad Dog Brought Me Home), Tini Howard (Catwoman, Excalibur), Nicole Goux (Pet Peeves, Shadow Service), Meghan Fitzmartin (Tim Drake: Robin, Dark Crisis: Young Justice), John Ottman (Bohemian Rhapsody, X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Sarah Gailey (Eat the Rich, River of Teeth).
Spotlight interviews will feature Maia Kobabe (Gender Queer), Lucky Srikumar (Opting Out), Jen Wang (The Prince and the Dressmaker, Ash’s Cabin), ND Stevenson (Nimona), Lee Knox Ostertag (The Witch Boy, The Deep Dark), Richard Fairgray (Four-Color Heroes, Ghost Ghost), and Joe Phillips (illustrator and animator).
