San Diego Trolleys Get Wrapped Up for San Diego Comic-Con 2026 [UPDATE June 25]

San Diego Comic-Con may still be weeks away, but one of the surest signs that con season has officially arrived is already rolling through the city. Every year, the arrival of the first MTS trolley wrap serves as an unofficial countdown to Comic-Con, transforming San Diego’s public transit system into a moving preview of the pop culture spectacle to come.

For many attendees, spotting that first wrapped trolley is the moment SDCC starts to feel real. According to Mark Olson, Director of Marketing & Communications for the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, that’s true for MTS employees as well. “Trolley wraps are often the first glimpse of what fans can expect for the upcoming Comic-Con experience,” Olson told us. “And just like fans, MTS employees start to get excited about it too when that first wrapped Trolley heads out into service.”

This year, Comic-Con trolley advertising inventory has completely sold out, with all 45 trains serving the Convention Center and Comic-Con area receiving wraps. While plans are still being finalized, attendees can expect approximately 15 unique sets of artwork, including several trolley cars featuring interior advertising as well.

Olson says Comic-Con remains an all-hands-on-deck effort for MTS. “We are fully staffed and excited to be a part of the festivities as the Comic-Con experience for many attendees begins on the Trolley,” Olson said. “Attendees are often traveling a long way to attend, so we want to contribute to the fun, positive experience that so many people have enjoyed over the years.”

MTS is also teasing additional Comic-Con activities this year, including activations at the Gaslamp Quarter and Convention Center stations, a new collector pin, and giveaways for riders at select stations throughout the convention.

There’s plenty more Hulu animayhem where that came from! Our team caught a look at a new wrap for The Simpsons on Disney+, with a “Monopoly D’Oh!” design.

Kind of the Hill is also represented, with a “Hill Fix-It” design.

We were also able to get a much better look at the Bob’s Burgers Burgers Quest trolley design, which we love.

And finally for now, here’s a better look at the Futurama “Blob-O-Rama”.

[UPDATE June 24]

All aboard the animation express! Cool San Diego Sights caught a look at two new trolley wraps for Hulu, including Bob’s Burgers (with a very fun “Burger Quest” themed wrap), and Futurama (with Blob-O-Rama).

[UPDATE June 18]

It’s a new day, and time for a new Crunchyroll wrap. This version is celebrating some of Crunchyroll’s biggest hits, including One Piece, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Chainsaw Man, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Blue Lock, and more.

Come celebrate 10 years of “hero history” with Crunchyroll and the first of their San Diego Comic-Con MTS trolley wraps, for My Hero Academia. Our own Parks & Cons caught a look at the new wrap, which just hit the tracks:

[UPDATE June 16 #2]

Off with her head! Audible is back with more wraps for San Diego Comic-Con, starting with the upcoming Audible Original, Heads Will Roll: Heir Apparent by Kate McKinnon and Emily Lynne. The comedy fiction releases on June 25, but you can catch it rolling down the San Diego MTS trolley tracks all summer long.

They’re also celebrating We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor (and narrated by Ray Porter), another Audible Original. The series follows Bob Johansson, a software entrepreneur who dies shortly after arranging to have his head cryogenically preserved. More than a century later, he awakens as the AI controlling a self-replicating space probe and sets out to explore the galaxy and help humanity find new worlds.

[UPDATE June 14]

You didn’t possibly think we wouldn’t get an Audible wrap, did you? They’re back this year with two different wraps at the moment, celebrating Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which features a voice cast including Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Voldemort, Riz Ahmed as Snape, Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge, James McAvoy as Professor Moody, and more.

From our team, here’s a look:

We also caught a look at a second design, for Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl. We already know that Dinniman will be a Special Guest at San Diego Comic-Con this year, so an Audible panel feels like a lock.

[UPDATE June 13]

As we reported earlier this week, there are actually three wraps for Nintendo’s Splatoon Raiders this year — and we have a closer look at the second one.

[UPDATE June 11]

It’s time to get radin’. The second wrapped MTS trolley for San Diego Comic-Con sees the return of Nintendo to the tracks, with the first of three wraps for their upcoming Splatoon Raiders game. As we reported earlier this week, Nintendo will also be back on the show floor this year, and fans will get to experience playable demos of the game on the exhibit floor. Keep an eye out for the rest of the Splatoon Raiders trolley wraps in the upcoming days.
