You know it’s been a busy news week when Jim Lee is relegated to an edition of “Under the Tents”! But this week saw everything from the first trolley wraps to party announcements, to exclusives, and everything in between. So I won’t take too much of your time with this intro, and let’s dive straight into the news.
Here’s a look at the news you might have missed:
- Let’s just get the biggest news out of the way, which are these three beautiful covers from the legendary Jim Lee, released through Collectible Art and heading to Torpedo Comics Booth #1000. No word yet on just how limited that print run is, but you’ll be able to pick up Absolute Superman #21, Absolute Wonder Woman #22, and Absolute Batman #22. And if that isn’t enough, Lee will also be doing signings at the booth, with details still TBA.

- Somewhere over the rainbow… is a Priscilla Wilson San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. For now, you’ll have to settle for this very colorful (and very cryptic) clue.

- Earlier this year, Hermes Press brought fans a new graphic novel, Curse of Dark Shadows, which is the franchise as you’ve never seen it before. It looks like we’ll be getting some form of presence at the con, as Arengtinan artist Jok gave a little tease on Instagram.
- Fist my bump. If you’re still feeling amaze amaze amaze about Project Hail Mary, then you’re going to fall in love with artist Martin Hsu’s sakura-inspired commission print. And if you’d like him to turn this into a run of prints at the con, be sure to let him know.
Had the pleasure of creating this #SDCC commission for Emily. Would anyone be interested in a small run of prints for pre-order?
Per Emily’s blessing, of course 😊🌸 #ProjectHailMary pic.twitter.com/91E3KGWTGZ

- We love hand-made things at San Diego Comic-Con, and there’s something adorable about this clearly hand-made announcement from author Kiersten White. There’s no word yet on if it’s for her The Fox and the Devil, a Penguin Random House release about an obsession between an immortal serial killer and a vampire hunter’s daughter, or something else — but we’re excited to hear more about her scribblings.

- Fantasy author Terry J. Benton-Walker didn’t make a graphic at all to announce his SDCC appearance, but he does invite you to come hang out at his panels.

- Street Fighter and the Valiant Universe are throwing down at San Diego Comic-Con. Ahead of the July 29 release of Street Fighter vs. The Valiant Universe #1, fans can expect the crossover one-shot to make an appearance at the show, including an SDCC-exclusive cover by Colm Griffin from Alien Books (as seen in Bleeding Cool). The comic pairs Cammy White with Bloodshot for a globe-spanning action adventure, while a backup story pits Ninjak against Dhalsim. Given the timing, attendees may want to keep an eye out for more exclusives for this one… especially considering it’s a collab with Valiant Comics, UDON, Capcom, and Alien Books.

- The panel announcements continue to roll out! Today’s announcement is “Kidults: The New Toy Economy“, which will explore the rise of adult toy collecting, with veterans like Dan Southworth (actor; Rangers: Time Force!, Mortal Kombat), Garrett Sanders (creator of Monster High and co-creator of Ever After High), Jake “Oz” Krajeski (tabletop gaming veteran), Jennifer Wu (brand marketer and art director), Rich Mayerick (producer; The Toys That Made Us), and Scott Zillner (collector/curator).

- Did you enjoy Mr. Ed’s & Dr. Jones’ Pop-Up at WonderCon, where they brought in actors like Jon Bailey (Transformers, Jeff the Land Shark), Sandy Fox (Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty), and Sam Kwasman (Donald Duck) to the con? Well, good news! They’ll be heading to Booth #4015, and they’re bringing more special guests still TBA for selfies and autographs. And special guest DJ Chino will also be on-site to spin some tunes.

- Artist Terry Dodson is busy doodlin’ away the days until San Diego Comic-Con, and that hard work is going to pay off for attendees in the form of his first new sketchbook of the 2020’s. Lucky us!
Keeping up the doodlin…
Have I mentioned I’m prepping my first new sketchbook this decade?
And it will debut at San Diego Comic Con …

- The folks at Broke Skull Collectibles are bringing two San Diego Comic-Con exclusives, and they’re both launching for pre-order on July 6 so you can ensure you get your stock. For now, though, you’ll have to settle for this tease.

Still need a badge for San Diego Comic-Con? Sorry. We can’t help. But maybe some of these Contests can.
