Especially with panels, though, it’s helpful to know what else is in the panel room, as sure, your panel might be a walk-in by itself — but what if something major is right after it? 10:30AM:11:30AM: Cineverse: Air Bud Returns – Nearly three decades and 15 movies later, Air Bud is returning to the big screen and taking the stage at Comic-Con. Like the original, Air Bud Returns is a quintessential family movie that is sure to be a multigenerational event. It’s not a sequel or a remake; it’s the next chapter in the Air Bud franchise, with an all-new story and characters, reimagined by writer, director, and franchise creator Robert Vince.Air Bud Returns is set in the original town of Fernfield, “where anything is possible.” Yes . . . there still ain’t no rule that says a dog can’t play basketball. Robert Vince and Air Bud share a sneak peek at the film, coming to theaters on January 22. –

11:45AM-12:45PM: 35 Years of Sailor Moon: Magical Girl Fandom Appreciation – While magical girls in anime and manga have been around since the 1960s, Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon changed the landscape of the magical girl genre. Jessica Tseang (The Comics Voyager, 2022 Eisner judge) discusses with panelists and manga historians how Sailor Moon has remained popular for more than three decades, the influence Takeuchi has had on other series like Cardcaptor Sakura, and the history of feminism in manga.

1:00PM-2:00PM: How Pokémon Captured Our Hearts for 30 Years – A nostalgic look back at how Pocket Monsters (Pokémon) became a worldwide phenomenon, making it the largest franchise in the world. Spanning more than three decades, the franchise extends beyond card games and anime into video games, clothing, meetups, and even a card sold for $16 million. Jessica Tseang (pop culture historian, AMC, The History Channel) discusses with artists, retailers, and industry leaders what makes the franchise so immersive and unforgettable.

2:15PM-3:15PM: The Lord of the Rings and the New Age of Adaptations – It’s been 25 years since fans excitedly anticipated Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings movies, and now a new age of adaptations is upon us. Jay Komas (general manager, Middle-earth Enterprises), Clifford Broadway (host, TORn Tuesday), Matt Graf (Nerd of the Rings), Jim Wert (TORn special events coordinator – East), Kellie Rice (Happy Hobbit; author), and Cathy Udovch (TORn special events coordinator – West). TheOneRing.net returns with the latest news and gossip on The Hunt for Gollum, The Rings of Power, games, collectibles, and other LOTR goodies in the works. What a time to be a fan.

3:30PM-5:00PM: Buffy: Once More, with Feeling: The Musical Experience – The show closes with an interactive screening of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode “Once More, with Feeling,” presented by Fandom Charities, HellmouthCon, and SixDegreesOfGeek as Comic-Con’s closing event. Often cited as one of the finest, funniest, and most ingenious episodes in the Buffyverse, it was made for talkin’—back, that is, and singing and dancing in the aisles, with or without the dry cleaning. Audience participation is not just for The Rocky Horror Picture Show anymore.

10:30AM-11:30AM: The Voices of Billy West – Billy West is an accomplished voice actor. He’s brought to life such original animated characters as Stimpy from Ren & Stimpy, Doug Funnie, and Futurama‘s Philip J. Fry, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan, and Professor Farnsworth, among many others. He’s also played iconic characters Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in Space Jam, Popeye, and Woody Woodpecker. West shares never-before-heard stories from his newly released memoir, Voice-A-Versa (Abrams Press).

11:45AM-1:15PM: The Sunday Cartoon Voices Panel – With the smash-hit success of yesterday’s Cartoon Voices I panel, there’s no choice but to do another one, with different but equally talented actors from the world of animation voice work. Once again, moderator Mark Evanier has assembled an all-star dais that will include Fred Tatasciore (The Hulk, The Thing, Devil Dinosaur), Kaitlyn Robrock (Minnie Mouse, Star Wars Rebels), Roxana Ortega (The Casagrandes, The Loud House), Kimoy Lee (Rooster Fighter), Rob Paulsen (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Maurice LaMarche (Pinky and the Brain).

1:30PM-2:30PM: Star Trek: 60th Anniversary Celebration – As Star Trek celebrates its 60th anniversary, there has never been a better time to beam into the comics. With a new series taking place years after the Star Trek: Picard finale and stellar surprises, the captain of IDW’s Star Trek comics, Heather Antos, charts a course through an in-depth discussion about the next frontier of Star Trek comics, featuring the biggest minds behind the upcoming missions.

2:45PM-4:45PM: Starship Smackdown XXXIII: We’re Getting Too Old for This Ship Edition – The ultimate cosmic conflagration returns to San Diego, as the U.S.S. Enterprise confronts Serenity, an Imperial Star Destroyer battles Battlestar Galactica, and Jefferson Starship wrecks this city. Panelists Ashley E. Miller (Thor, X-Men: First Class), Robert Meyer Burnett (The Burnettwork, Free Enterprise), Kay Reindl (Millennium, Freaked), Isaac M. Altman and Caden Miller (The Kids Stay In The Podcast), Deric Hughes (The Flash, Quantum Leap), and Mark A. Altman (Pandora, Deathlands, The Librarians) return for another round of ancient combat. The Smackdown panel, hailed by NPR, returns to Comic-Con for its third decade.
