The Queen is coming. The Vampire Lestat may have just wrapped its third season, but the story is far from over.

During today’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, AMC announced that it has officially renewed Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire (known as The Vampire Lestat in its third season) for a fourth season, which will adapt Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned.

The announcement came during the series’ Hall H panel featuring executive producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch alongside cast members Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim.

Perhaps the biggest surprise behind the scenes, according to the press release, is that The Vampire Lestat executive producer Hannah Moscovitch will step into the role of showrunner for Queen of the Damned. While series creator Rolin Jones appears to be stepping down as showrunner following the third season, AMC confirmed he will remain involved as an executive producer alongside Moscovitch, Johnson, Christopher Rice, and the late Anne Rice.

“In The Vampire Lestat, Mark, Rolin, Hannah and this extraordinary cast delivered an unforgettable season filled with propulsive storytelling that captivated the passionate and engaged fans of this franchise,” said Dan McDermott, Chief Content Officer of AMC Global Media and President of AMC Studios. “We can’t wait to continue the journey with Queen of the Damned, one of the most iconic stories in Anne Rice’s mythology, and watch our established and beloved characters confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.”

Moscovitch has been with the series since its beginning, serving as a writer on the first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire before becoming an executive producer on The Vampire Lestat, where she penned the episodes centered on Akasha and Gabriella. She is also an acclaimed playwright whose credits include Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes and the award-winning miniseries Little Bird.

AMC also released the first teaser for Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned during the panel, giving fans their first glimpse at what’s next after Sunday’s explosive finale.
