Actor Matthew Lillard appears to be heading to San Diego Comic-Con… and let’s just say it’s has our horror senses tingling. Is someone getting ready to crash the prom?
GalaxyCon Raleigh announced today that Lillard has canceled his appearance at this month’s convention due to “contractual obligations requiring his attendance at San Diego Comic-Con.” While that doesn’t reveal why he’ll be in San Diego, it certainly suggests he’ll be there in an official capacity rather than simply roaming the convention floor.
So… what could bring him to SDCC? The most likely possibility seems to be Prime Video’s upcoming Carrie series (based on the Stephen King novel), in which Lillard stars as Principal Henry Grayle. The adaptation is expected to premiere in October, making San Diego Comic-Con the perfect place to finally let the bucket drop with a first look and cast panel.
Of course, there are other possibilities. Lillard also stars in Man of Tomorrow, though with that film not arriving until 2027, it feels a little early for a major Comic-Con push unless DC is planning a much broader showcase of its future slate, and we’re not convinced that’s the case. He’s also no stranger to beloved franchises, from Scream and Five Nights at Freddy’s to Scooby-Doo, so there’s always a chance one of those could have a surprise waiting in the wings.
Still, the wording of GalaxyCon’s announcement is what really caught our attention. “Contractual obligations” tends to imply a studio commitment, which feels more in line with promoting an upcoming project than participating in a retrospective or reunion panel.
Carrie also stars Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter), Samantha Sloyan (The Haunting of Hill House), Siena Agundong (Resident Evil), Amber Midthunder (Prey), and Delainey Hayles (The Vampire Lestat). The series comes from acclaimed showrunner Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House), and if Carrie does indeed make the trip to San Diego, it could also bode well for a panel on Clayface, which Flanagan penned for DC Studios.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But if you’re hoping Carrie makes it to Comic-Con, just remember: they’re all going to be looking at her… and we’ll be watching, too.
