REVIEW: Funko’s Funkoville International Airport Soars over San Diego Comic-Con 2024

Welcome aboard, passengers, this is your captain speaking. We’ll be cruising at an altitude of just above sea level as we take a flying tour over Funko’s booths at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. We’ll soar high above Funko’s Booth #5341 on our way to our sister booths Loungefly at Booth #5145 and Mondo at #5137.

Funko added some new members to their SDCC booth family this year, including Funko Fusion (#5137) to celebrate their new collaboration with 10:10 Games, and the Pop! Yourself Booth #5045 which gave visitors a chance to Pop! themselves into their favorite Deadpool & Wolverine cosplay character. Please observe the seatbelt sign for your safety and have a pleasant flight, folks.

Funko

The centerpiece to Funko’s mid-century homage to the golden age of air travel was Funko’s “Main Terminal” Booth #5341. No passport? No problem. For only $5, passengers could purchase a Funko Passport which they could get stamped at each booth in the “airport”. Of course, each booth had its own variety of SDCC exclusives and debuts to which travelers were delighted to feast their eyes.

Loungefly

Passengers checked their bags at Booth #5145, where Loungefly was on-hand with some of the most stylish pop culture bags, including another Stitch variant as well as Voltron, Scooby Doo’s best bud Shaggy, and a lot more. Stitch also had some matching bling available with their extremely limited SDCC 2024 enamel pin.

Mondo

Visitors enjoying extended layovers could pass the time at the Mondo Arcade, located just inside the airport’s entrance at Booth #5137. Keep your quarters in your pockets, though; this arcade served up Comic-Con 2024 art and music exclusives, including an amazing Batman (1989) soundtrack box set, an epic poster of the cover art for Deadpool #41 by Dave Johnson, and the Spider-Man 2 – Original Video Game Soundtrack with art by Kris Anka, just to name a few.

Funko Fusion

Funko treated airport visitors with a preview of their collaboration with 10:10 Games, Funko Fusion, which will debut in September 2024. Voicing Freddy Funko’s antithesis, Eddy Funko, is none other than acting and vocal legend Clancy Brown, who you’ve likely seen or heard in Carnivale (Brother Justin), Thor: Ragnarok (Surta), SpongeBob Squarepants (Mr. Krabs), Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Savage Opress), Highlander (The Kurgan)… you get it; he’s been in a lot of stuff.

Pop! Yourself

The Funko flight concluded with a souvenir for the kids in all of us at the Pop! Yourself Booth #5045. Fans lined up for the chance to create a custom Funko Pop! of themselves in cosplay as their favorite regenerative superhero with SDCC 2024 exclusive accessories from Deadpool & Wolverine.

Best of all, fans didn’t have to wait in line to order. Visitors were provided a QR code which took them to Funko’s customization site, where they were able to choose between a Deadpool or Wolverine cosplay and add their accessories. Funko did the rest and sent an email when it was ready to be picked up at the con (which was only a few hours later), which took a lot of pressure off when to return.

After about twenty years of managing Comic-Con crowds, Funko has become adept at keeping SDCC attendees moving (and security not yelling).

Funko’s campus at San Diego Comic-Con is always packed. The fact that they have their own campus of spaces is a testament to what they bring to the convention each year. While those with scheduled times from the Exclusives Portal get first dibs, Funko will open their spaces to the rest of the con once everyone with a time that day has gone through. This gives everyone at the convention the chance to find something special from the Funko family of brands.
