The Force is coming to Philadelphia… and San Diego Comic-Con attendees will get a sneak peek ahead of the full launch.
Today, Lucasfilm, Disney Consumer Products, MDSX, and The Franklin Institute have announced “Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy”, a new immersive exhibition celebrating 50 years of Star Wars. The exhibit will make its world premiere at The Franklin Institute on February 13, 2027, before embarking on a five-year tour across North America.
Spanning 18,000 square feet, the exhibition will feature more than 70 screen-used “artifacts” and behind-the-scenes pieces from across the saga, many of which have never been displayed publicly before. Fans will be able to view iconic props including Darth Vader’s armor, Darth Maul’s lightsaber hilt, and fan-favorite aliens, droids, and creatures including Grogu, R2-D2, C-3PO. There will also be a full-size speeder bike, original props from Andor, and much more.
The experience will also explore the artistry and innovation behind the franchise, from costume and sound design to visual effects, Industrial Light & Magic, fan creativity, and gaming, as well as an RFID-powered personalized experience.
San Diego Comic-Con attendees will be the first to learn more during “The Making of Star Wars: The Experience” panel on Friday, July 24, from 4pm-5pm in Room 7AB. Moderated by Ashley Eckstein (the voice of Ahsoka Tano), the panel will feature members of the creative team behind the exhibition, including Matt Martin (Sr. Creative Executive of Franchise Content and Strategy at Lucasfilm), Portia Fontes (Manager of Physical Assets at Lucasfilm), Abby Bysshe (Chief Experience and Strategy Officer at The Franklin Institute), Dan Picard (Creative Officer and Owner of MDSX), and and Dave Edmonds (Art Director at MDSX).
The group will debut the first gallery renderings, discuss the exhibition’s development, and offer a look at some of the never-before-seen props that will be featured when the exhibition opens next year.
It is worth noting that Room 7AB holds approximately 480 people.
Tickets for the Philadelphia exhibition are expected to go on sale this November.
