It sounds strange that one of the world’s most well-known genre film directors (for better or worse), M. Night Shymalan, has never been to San Diego Comic-Con. Now, it appears that Shyamalan may finally be stepping into the San Diego convention, but it’s not for a film — instead, it will be to promote his upcoming television series, Wayward Pines.
Shyamalan took to Twitter to announced his debut at San Diego Comic-Con, claiming to be “psyched” to be attending and promoting Wayward Pines, and even stating that he was getting his Aquaman costume out of the attic for the event:
Btw I'm going to #sdcc2014! My first time. I'm promoting #Waywardpines with the cast. Psyched. Getting my Aquaman costume out of the attic.

The new series, which debuts on FOX in midseason, is executive produced by Shyamalan and follows Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) as he investigates the disappearance of two federal agents in a mysterious small Idaho town. Shyamlan also directed the pilot episode, which will start off a 10-episode season sometime in 2015.
FOX has not confirmed the appearance, and although Shyamalan offered no further details on how the series will be promoted, FOX typically brings its new series out for a pilot screening and a shorter panel afterwards with cast and crew. However, with the boom in offsite events at Comic-Con, the series could be featured in other ways and with other appearances, like autograph signings. We’ve reached out to a representative at FOX for additional details about what the Wayward Pines appearance will look like, and once we have more details, we will update our readers.
Here’s a trailer for Wayward Pines:
