If you think the only place to find films at San Diego Comic-Con is in Hall H, then think again. The annual Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival schedule has been announced for 2015, and this year’s line-up includes documentaries and short films and features that range from superhero and action, animation, sci-fi and fantasy, horror and suspense, and much more. In short, there’s something for everyone.
The Independent Film Festival is on the move this year to Manchester Grand Hayatt’s Grand Ballroom D, and features not only movies, but industry panels as well. Attendees can stop by Thursday – Sunday of Comic-Con to hear industry professionals speak about location scouts, film school, directing, casting directors, and more. On Sunday, the final day of the convention and festival, the winners of the Independent Film Festival will be determined by a panelist of three judges – which this year includes director Dan Sachar, who won the Judges’ Choice last year for Last of You, director/writer/actor Letia Clouston, and Sleepy Hollow‘s Orlando Jones.
The film schedule is helpfully broken out into genres, starting with Humor & Satire and Science Fiction & Fantasy on Thursday, including Captcha, an award-winning film noir spy thriller set in 1940’s “steam punk” London and starring Arthur Darvill and Amy Beth Hayes.
Attendees who don’t feel like lining up for Star Wars and The Walking Dead for hours can head over to the Manchester Grand Hyatt on Friday for Animation and Action-Adventure. Who needs a Marvel Hall H panel when you’ve got Thundercluck: Chicken of Thor, which chronicles the birth, life, and legacy of the viking chicken with the power of thunder?
Saturday will be the final day of film screenings, and includes both Comics-Oriented projects as well as Documentaries. Swing by for a 1:05 screening of She Makes Comics, about the fascinating history of women in the comics industry. There’s also Cosplay Dreams 3D, the award-winning film about the reality and fantasy of “costume play” that stars Yaya Han, Traci Hines, Fanboy Brandon, and more.
The complete schedule can be found on Comic-Con International’s site.
