WonderPost 2023: Robert McKeone, Val Hochberg, JYK All Day

We are just ONE WEEK away from WonderCon 2023 — can you believe it? It feels like it hasn’t been that long since we last stepped foot in the Anaheim Convention Center. But there are still plenty of announcements to be revealed, more art to be showcased (Star Trek and Disney mash-ups? Creatures both adorable and terrifying? We got ’em.), and more fun to be found (try your hand at some retro computer games!).

Here’s a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Beam me up, Robert McKeone. Chart a course for #B-29, where you can pick up McKeone’s latest print, “Captain’s Log“, an ode to both Star Trek and Disneyland, featuring Captains throughout the series run in Splash Mountain-esque “log” (get it?). This print will be premiering exclusively at WonderCon, so hop into the Lightning Lane and head to his booth to grab it.

  • Do you love vintage computer games? Come play with author and illustrator Rachel Ignotofsky at Booth #1141, where she’ll have books, art, and vintage computers like a 1984 Mac or 1977 Commodore PET loaded up with games.

  • Artist Nick Kremenek is almost complete with the lead-up to his WonderCon limited edition poster — The Good, The Bad, and The Monstrous. But first, let’s meet another member of the latter, which is Swamp Thing himself, Alec Holland.

  • If you haven’t guessed by now, we’re big fans of artist Val Hochberg, creator of Mystery Babylon. Every year she brings tons of mini original artworks to her booth (#C-60 in Artist Alley). This year’s batch includes this adorable fox, and this Critical Role Scanlan Shorthalt piece, among many, many more.

  • Who ya gonna call? Why, the LA Ghostbusters, of course! Stop by Booth #1192 for free ESP tests, equipment demos, or to check out their collection of slime. They’ll even be doing daily raffles to benefit the Starlight Children’s Group.

  • The Caleb King has been busy working on a new piece for WonderCon, featuring the Star Wars character Bo Katan. This beautiful watercolor and ink on paper will be available as a print just in time for the show at Booth #A-55.
  • Artist Jen Gray is returning to WonderCon this year, where she’ll be set up in Artist Alley #A-61 with prints, art books, and an exclusive mermaid print.

  • Michele Fried of Handcrafted Geekdom is at it again, with a new Dungeons & Dragons dice inspired art piece. Stop by Artist Alley #F-22 with your party to claim victory — and this artwork.

  • Jin Yung Kim, also known as JYK All Day, revealed another art piece heading to his WonderCon Booth #A-06. This sketch pays tribute to Kamen Rider Black Sun.
