The wait for San Diego Comic-Con 2015 is almost over. Only one more week until the excitement of SDCC Preview Night begins. Yet it seems there is still so much to get done before it begins: bags need to be packed, schedules need to be made, and still so much con news needs to be found and revealed.
Luckily we can officially say that we now have confirmed news regarding one piece of the SDCC 2015 puzzle – whether or not Gerard Way will be attending Comic-Con.
If you haven’t been keeping up with our Gerard Way posts here at The San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog, we spend a lot of time gathering San Diego Comic-Con news for our readers. We sift through Google, Twitter and other sources to bring our readers a comprehensive look at what attendees can expect to get excited about for the upcoming year’s Comic-Con.
Often, a lot of the information we find is fans asking their favorite artists, writers, and celebrities via Twitter if they will be attending SDCC or not for the upcoming year. Yet, it seems that no matter what information we come across, every year one name stands above the rest. We find that one of San Diego Comic-Con’s most tweeted after celebrities is former My Chemical Romance band member and Eisner-award-winning Umbrella Academy writer, Gerard Way.
In fact, each year we find so many Gerard Way tweets that we began to ask ourselves, just how many times does Gerard Way get asked via Twitter if he will be attending Comic-Con?
Each month, we’ve been keeping a tally of just how often Gerard Way gets asked about attending Comic-Con, so that by July, we can finally answer that burning question as well as hopefully find an answer for our readers.
Last month we reported that Gerard Way’s public relations agent reported to us via an e-mail that Way would not attend SDCC. However we were still waiting for official word from Gerard Way. Well during our June news search it seems we have finally found our answer amid the flurry of tweets:
@HopeLNicholson No worries. And unfortunately no San Diego for me this year- too many books to write!
— Gerard Way (@gerardway) June 26, 2015
So sadly it seems that this year will be a pass for Gerard Way and for the fans who were hoping to see him. However, you can find his Umbrella Academy collaborator Gabriel Ba on the ‘Different is Cool’ panel on Sunday, July 12 at 11:4AM in Room 6DE.
