WonderPost 2022: Wuvable Oaf, David Dastmalchian, Val Hochberg, Blood Drive, Megan Porch

There is something special in the air, can you feel it? It’s a little bit of electricity, a little bit of nerves, a little bit of worry and a whole lot of excitement. WonderCon 2022 is tantalizingly close, and it’s the first in-person WonderCon since 2019. 2019! It was before Avengers: Endgame even! Before Prince Archie was born to Harry and Meghan! It was before Baby Yoda, ya’ll. It feels impossible to remember a time before Grogu, but apparently it happened and that was the last time there was an in-person WonderCon.

Now, before we get into all the exclusives, signings and other news, a few reminders. Please practice common sense safety. For some folks, this is their first event, they might still not want to hug or shake hands. Be calm and patient with the often overlooked volunteers and convention center employees and security. Cosplay still isn’t consent. Be kind. Support your favorite creators and let them know you appreciate them participating, specifically by following the posted mask guidelines. Some folks are only there because of the rules put in place to help protect everyone. But most of all, have fun!

Now let’s take a look at the news:

  • Suicide Squad‘s David Dastmalchian is the latest in 7 Bucks a Pop announced signers that will be at their booth. Dastmalchian will be signing on Sunday, April 3 from 12pm-4pm at booth #281. Dastmalchian is also the creator of Count Crowley, a comic series by Dark Horse Books.

  • The QittyQats are coming to WonderCon!  These prints by artist Shag will be available at their booth, #1437. Each print is limited to 10 copies, is signed, and is also redeemable for an airdropped NFT.

  • Also in the realm of NFTs, and at the same booth, you can find the Little Corgi Cuties, the first NFT project by Jerrod Maruyama. Although it does not indicate, we suspect these might also be prints offered with airdropped NFTs.

  • President and COO of Top Cow Comics, Matt Hawkins will be found at booth A-16 over the weekend. Hawkins is also a prolific writer and producer, most recently having written the one-shot comic The Clay People: Colossus.

  • Those looking to do some good while at WonderCon can now schedule their appointment for the Robert A. Heinlein Memorial Blood Drive. The Red Cross will have appointments to collect blood donations from 12:15 to 6:15 on Friday, and from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. They will be at the Anaheim Convention Center in Room 204AB. This will be the 14th year that WonderCon has hosted this blood drive and each donor will receive a cloisonné pin designed by Robert Heinlein.
  • If you’re a Power Rangers fan (and who isn’t?) you’re in big, big luck. Brennan Mejia and a heap of other Power Rangers actors will be signing at table DL-31 on Saturday and Sunday.

  • This serene Totoro piece is just one painting that Megan Porch will have at her Artist Alley table, C-62.

  • Jolzar Collectibles and Devil Dog Comics will have this Detective Comics #1050 exclusive variant cover with art by Gabriel Dell’Otto. Limited to 1000 copies with Exclusive COA Trading Card that will be individually numbered to guarantee authenticity.

  • Creator Rob Liefeld has his bags packed with variant covers. You’ll be able to purchase them at booth #2236.

  • KRS Comics will be hosting a few signings at their booth, #801, during WonderCon. You’ll be able to see artist Mike Mayhew on Friday and Saturday, and artist Will Jack on Saturday only.

  • Illustrator Dave O’Flanagan posted a teeny tiny tease from what he says will be an exclusive True Romance print released at WonderCon from Hero Complex Gallery. More please!

  • We are going b-a-n-a-n-a-s for these Val Hochberg originals. Seeing them all together like this is making it hard to decide which one we want most.

  • Wuvable Oaf will be at Small Press #SP-08 next weekend and they will debut this amazing t-shirt collaboration with artist Junko Mizuno.

  • We are starting to wonder if Jeff Pina isn’t actually an art-making robot in disguise. Pina will have ONE THOUSAND one-of-a-kind 5″ x 5″ sketches with him at Artist Alley C-59.

  • Attendees of the Star Wars: The Toys Awaken screening at WonderCon will be treated to a Q&A with the creators and free-mini-posters. This family friendly event is perfect for the young jedis and padawans.

  • Hero Within teased a peek at one of their upcoming WonderCon releases, a Godzilla jacket.
