Mattel San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Exclusives [UPDATE July 19]

When it comes to San Diego Comic-Con exclusives, the cornerstones of the con have consistently been Hasbro and Mattel. With license to manufacture toys that are consistently at the top of the pop culture want list, both booths have been the craziest for many of Comic-Con’s years.

Mattel is returning to San Diego Comic-Con, to Booth #3029 and #2945, where they’ll have exclusives, special guest appearances from WWE superstars and more, product showcases, and more.

Beginning Monday, July 11, Mattel Creations will offer exclusive must-have collections from iconic properties leading up to SDCC in a “12 Days of Fandom”, which will eventually lead to a 288-hour sale of the 2022 lineup.

Also at the booth, Cryptoys, an NFT platform combining toys, gaming, and entertainment, will be partnering with Mattel to celebrate He-Man’s 40th anniversary. They’ll be giving away exclusive collectible lapel pins featuring iconic characters (including He-Man, Skeletor, and Battle Cat) at the Mattel booth.

Also at the Mattel booth, Cryptoys artists will be signing an exclusive He-Man poster on Friday, July 22 from 1pm-2pm. Fans who scan QR codes at Mattel’s booth can register to receive exclusive SDCC 2022 NFT gifts from Cryptoys when the Masters of the Universe series launches just a few weeks later.

Here’s a look at this year’s exclusives:

[UPDATE July 19]

Mattel offered a closer look at their Back in Action three-pack of collector figures today. This set, which includes Big Jim, Major Matt Mason, and Pulsar, represent some of the earliest action figures — and they’re set in the heavily muscled style of the mid-80’s.

Get it at San Diego Comic-Con, or on MattelCreations.com on Friday, July 22 at 9am PT.

[UPDATE July 18 #2]

Monster High fans, we’re going back to school. The New York Times showed off a new Monster High exclusive doll, for Voltageous, the superhero alter ego of Frankie Stein.

Additionally, they’re bringing back some popular toy lines, with Back in Action! figures for Major Matt Mason, Big Jim, and Pulsar. Major Matt Mason, an astronaut action figure, was introduced in 1967, and Big Jim and Pulsar followed in the 1970’s. All have been off shelves for decades, but now is their time to shine.

Presumably, all will be available at both San Diego Comic-Con and on MattelCreations.com on Friday, July 22 at 9am PT.

[UPDATE July 18]

Gizmodo has the details on two new Masters of the Universe exclusives heading to the convention, including a two-pack of new Masterverse He-Man vs. Skeletor 40th Anniversary 2-Pack, and a Mega Construx set. In addition, Slashfilm got a look at another new Mattel San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, this time for Ghost Rider.

The new Hot Wheels toy portrays Ghost Rider’s flaming motorcycle, with Johnny Blaze attached. The packaging pays homage to the first comic cover for the series, where “A Legend is Born”.

[UPDATE July 12]

Step into the ring for Mattel’s next San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. They’re bringing over-the-top rope action with a two-pack of WWE No Holds Barred figures, featuring the showdown from the film between Hulk Hogan as Rip and Tom “Tiny” Lister as “The Human Wrecking Machine” Zeus. [UPDATE July 11]

Mattel’s first reveal for their “12 Days of Fandom” goes prehistoric, with this Jurassic Park Hammond Collection Outhouse Chaos Set, recreating the iconic moment when attorney Donald Gennaro attempted to hide in a bathroom… and it didn’t work out so well for him.

The SDCC set features Mattel’s first-ever Gennaro figure, and features lights and sounds and detailed “rain deco” T-Rex. No word yet on pricing, but it will be available at both the con and on MattelCreations.com beginning Saturday, July 22 at 9am PT.

[UPDATE July 5]

Up first, you can experience the power of the Dark Side with Mattel’s 12″ Hologram Darth Vader™ Limited Edition Premium Plush. It was previously available at Star Wars Celebration, where it was $100.

Mattel does mention that you’ll be able to “get yours at San Diego Comic-Con July 21-24th”, which could imply there won’t be a pre-sale this year.
