Under the Tents 2023: Hasbro Marvel Legends, Toddland, Lumpia with a Vengeance, J. Michael Straczynski, BB-CRE.8

Whew! Is it starting to feel like San Diego Comic-Con news season yet? It certainly is to us. We got news of a free Neopets party with swag, food, drinks, and entertainment. Hello Kitty will be dishing up sweet treats and sweet merch. We had tons of exclusives news, from a baby Eagly to a bloody Homelander. And all of that is just today! But there’s plenty more news where that came from, and we’ve got a late-night edition of Under the Tents to catch you up.

Now let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Toddland’s always got your back. They offered a glimpse into their items this year, which will be available to sneak peek first right here on The San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog. You can expect some plush items, but whether or not they’re available for purchase at the con or for shipping later, we’ll have to stay tuned to see how the logistics work out, as they try to keep costs (and luggage space) low for you, the fans.

  • They’re even considering releasing a small quantity each day and having them ship to you for free — with possibly a separate line. Let them know your thoughts over on Twitter.

  • San Diego Comic-Con and the San Diego Padres are linked in many attendees’ minds — while the Padres may always be away during the con, their home stadium Petco Park is as much a part of the convention center “campus” as anything else in the area. And BB-CRE.8 is root, root, rooting for the home team with this fun Star Wars mash-up “Galactic Sports Pin Series”, which will be available at Booth #1334. They’re limited to 100 pieces each.

  • Tyler Walpole, whose work you have probably seen on Magic the GatheringDungeons & Dragons, and Critical Role, showed off a new group shot for Critical Role featuring the Mighty Nein. He’s planning to have limited edition prints with him at San Diego Comic-Con, so gather your party and seek out Booth #5551.

  • Artist Chris Maze has been busy preparing for San Diego Comic-Con, and he’ll have plenty of new art to show off for you at Booth #2103. Can you guess any of the themes of his prints this year from his emoji line-up?

  • Hasbro Marvel Legends marketer Dan Yun confirmed that you can definitely still find the Marvel Legends team at San Diego Comic-Con. You won’t even miss Marvel on the show floor… because they’re only skipping Hall Hnot the exhibit hall!

  • Stay tuned to the San Diego Comic-Con Unofficial Blog (hey, that’s us!) for more information soon on the rest of artist Martin Hsu’s SDCC exclusives, including a whole herd of Ted Lasso-ified cats.

  • Are you hungry for some San Diego Comic-Con news? Kid Heroes is dishing up another helping of Lumpia with a Vengeance this year, with “three straight delicious nights of pop-ups, exclusives, and mixers”. We’re ready to fill our plate.

  • It’s just not an edition of “Under the Tents” without at least one crochet creation, and Nifty Neuron is showing off an adorable crochet Psyduck for their drops at the con.

  • Pop artist Des Taylor and Robb Pratt have been busy cooking up a new limited edition exclusive of Eva Strongbird and the Marine, just for San Diego Comic-Con.

  • Are you like us, and just can’t wait to start writing down which booths you’re for sure going to stop at this year on the show floor? While we wait for the official map, artist Don Nguyen has a helpful “Friends List” of many artists and vendors scattered around the show floor, which seems like a very good place to start your list.

  • J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5 and co-creator of Sense8, has been teasing this year’s San Diego Comic-Con appearance for months now (and we’re very grateful!). His latest tease promises that “announcements will be made, mysteries examined, and revelations imparted”. Get excited.
