WonderPost: James Silvani, Lilli Goldschmidt, Peter Clines, David Mack, Lydia Anslow, Patrick Ballesteros

Welcome to another edition of our WonderPost news. It’s hard to believe that it’s only the end of February because the Twitters and Instagrams were positively blooming with new tidbits of news. Not that we are complaining. Here at the Ublog, we appreciate the slow steady trickle over a thundering deluge (although that can be fun too). In this edition, we have some Patrick Ballesteros mini-originals, a welcome trio of diverse panels, promises of fun stickers, and the return of the merfolk.

Let’s take a look at the news you might have missed:

  • Over on Instagram, artist Danny Silva has been showing off some of his new stickers. They are available on Etsy now, but Danny promises that he will bring any and all leftovers to WonderCon in April. We love the variety of characters Danny creates.
  • The non-profit group, California Browncoats, will once again be at WonderCon with a mission greater than themselves. Firefly and Serenity cast member Sean M. Maher has chosen the Browncoats designated charity: the Alzheimer’s Association. Stop by Booth #889 to see how you can help.

  • Our favorite teenage artist, Ethan Castillo, is returning to WonderCon and is busy prepping for the show. He showed off this small but “AMAZING” sketch over on Instagram.

  • Additionally, Castillo is hard at work on a print inspired by the game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. You can check out his progress below.

  • Wasteland Comics will be promoting their webcomic GLITCH all WonderCon weekend long in Artist’s Alley.

  • New York Times bestselling author (and writer of my favorite book of 2017, Paradox Bound) Peter Clines will be at WonderCon and is looking to fill his schedule by speaking on a panel or two. Hit him up if you need an insightful and engaging panelist.

  • Critical Role: Vox Machina fans will want to make note that artist Lydia Anslow is bringing a lovely inspired print with her to WonderCon. Sounds like it was a long time in the making, but worth the wait.

  • Enchanting illustrator Kelly McMahon was happy to see some proofs of her 2020 convention items arriving, and then confirmed that she will be attending WonderCon, among several other events.

  • Looks like panel approvals are slowly leaking out. We spied Brother Nyght celebrating that their “Queer Creatives of Color, Assemble” panel made the cut.

  • Cool kids with an eye for creative and clever design already know well the work of Christopher Lee. Luckily for all of us, Christopher will be back at WonderCon, representing his Beast Is Back line, as well as the Night Cake Press subsidiary.

  • I’m going to slip a little bad news right in the middle here and hope it doesn’t ruin anyone’s day. Popular artist James Silvani will not, I repeat, will not be attending WonderCon. He assures us that this is only temporary and that he’ll be back for SDCC.

  • In addition to all her other lovely offerings, Jessica Chrysler is promising to have a new mini-comic finished in time for WonderCon. We can’t wait to see more of this.

  • Here’s another panel announcement, this time courtesy of “Zorlita” Mary Bellamy. Bellamy will be on a stacked panel called The Art of Magic, featuring Jen Bartel, Adam Hughes, Mitch Gerads, Trungles, and Irene Koh. Keep your Saturday free to see these artists spill some tricks of the trade.

  • Your “Friendly Neighborhood” Todd Nauck will be offering commissions at his table during WonderCon and we have all the information over on our List of Open Artist Commissions.  You’ll also want to look over Todd’s procedures for these commissions. If getting some original art from Todd is your goal, it’s best to be prepared and act fast!
  • Once again, friend to the UBlog, Patrick Ballesteros will have his original and one-of-a-kind mini originals at WonderCon. Patrick is a never-ending font of ideas and by the looks of this tweet, he’s just getting started.

  • Want to have fun and help some great people during WonderCon? Symbiote Studios is looking for a few hard-working individuals who are as excited about pop culture at they are. DM them on Twitter to show you’re interested.

  • Writer Suzanne Park will have a brand-spanking new YA novel out just in time for WonderCon. You can celebrate the release of The Perfect Escape with her at the panel for Debut Writers of Color with Julie Abe, Jessica Kim, Ken Choy, and Namina Forna.

  • Hopefully you folks remember The Utensil Company and all their creative pop culture items that help you look cool while eating and drinking. If you need to refresh your memory, you are in luck because they will be at WonderCon.

  • And finally today, last year’s mermaid and mermen themes have clearly carried over to 2020 and we are not sorry! Disney sketch artist Lilli Goldschmidt looks to be working on a whole school of originals for WonderCon, as well as a mini zine.
